Travel Purpose: leisure

Positive: A classic French country hotel with truly great food. Although this place has had a somewhat insensitive refit both in the restaurant downstairs and in the rooms, it still retains some of the things I love about these places. The host clearly loves the hospitality business, I had one of the better meals of my whole trip here. They do a pretty extensive aged beef menu, not my bag, but if you are into that, this looked the business. The floors upstairs are pleasingly wonky, unfortunately the old boards have been covered in heavy duty vinyl, but I could imagine what it would have been like underneath. My room had a recently remodelled bathroom which was great.

Negative: The check-in opens at 6pm, which might be a constraint, I had arranged an earlier check-in and then couldn't make it, which got us off on the wrong foot, but it was all good. I had to wait in the afternoon sun for 10 minutes, so no harm done.

Summary: An unassuming gem of a hotel with professional management and great food.
