Travel Purpose: business

Positive: Communication with Elodie, the owner was fab, she replied and helped as much as possible with questions I had prior to staying. In our rental, Elodie had provided basic provisions such as washing up liquid, toilet paper, bin bags, kitchen paper etc, so it was good to not have to worry about those on first arrival. She also provide additional things for fun activities - we saw mini golf clubs, a Pétanque set, sunbeds and books. Overall, we enjoyed the space as it had everything we needed in the home and little touches like the magnetic fly mesh over the door were very well thought of. The whole site is managed very well and the location of our rental was great, just a few minutes walk to the beach. Checking in with reception was smooth and clear. The staff working there speak very good English. On the site, we made use of the pools - the indoor one was lovely and warm, the outdoor one was a little cold but we still braved it and ventured in. We had fun using the slides and there were plenty of sunbeds including ones in shaded spots. The surrounding area is full of other company managed campsites with their own shops and restaurants. There is also a few other eateries not connected to sites, along the road, but a few spots were closed as we must have been too early in the season for them. The beach area has 2 restaurant-bars close together, and another at the other end of the beach. Overall the area seems like a decent spot with enough facilities to help you have a nice stay. We saw a bus servicing the area but it is definitely somewhere which requires a car, since some places are not within walking distance - such as the good supermarkets which you can reach only by car.

Negative: We discovered some 'hidden' charges on arrival. These were not clear or listed explicitly well on the listing. 1- The campsite requires a fee for bedding linen and towels, which I thought was included as it was listed as included at time of my booking. After speaking to Elodie where she explained it wasn't included, I therefore did expect to be charged on arrival. However, the pricing was unexpected - it was priced per room, per bed, and depending on the type of bed - double or twin, the cost is not the same. What I was expecting was one price for the whole home, not to choose who should or shouldn't have linen or towels. 2- There is a tourist tax to be paid, for duration of stay, per person. 3- Damage fee which they placed a 1€ hold on your card, pending any damages. I can't remember the exact amount it would be if you had damages. All of these could have been explained a little bit better in the listing, since I didn't know these charges would be applied to a private rental vs a campsite managed rental. It was also a little unclear about if a BBQ was provided or not, which Elodie explained wasn't included. We didn't bother with hiring one in the end. None of these things diminished our our stay but it would have been nice to understand about them at the time of booking as these were additional costs I didn't budget for. One inconvenience was that rubbish had to be taken to the entrance area where all the bins were. On other campsites I've stayed at, they usually have bins dotted through the site, so this was a little strange and inconvenient. The 'supermarkets' on site are so-so and a little overpriced so we avoided them. We had a car so we went to the big supermarkets in the Saint-Laurent-de-la-Salanque area, a 5-8 mins drive away. Also, there were mosquitoes everywhere! Please bring what you need to deter them! Between us we got bitten whilst being out and about in the site, and at the beach.
